"Mummy" actor reveals why he will not attend Golden Globes

(MENAFN) Brendan Fraser told GQ magazine on Wednesday that he will not "participate" at the golden globes award ceremony in 2023, even if he wins for his return role as a 600-pound English teacher in "The Whale." Fraser claims that his absence is due to sexual assault committed by the former head of the organization that presents the awards.
“I have more history with the hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” Fraser informed the magazine, elaborating that he would not “participate … because of the history that I have with them. And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite.”
Fraser accused former association president Philip Berk of grabbing him at a luncheon in 2003 in 2018. While Berk first rejected the accusation, he eventually admitted to writing an apology to the actor.
The HFPA closed ranks around its ex-director, proposing the actor sign an announcement reading “although it was concluded that Mr. Berk inappropriately touched Mr. Fraser, the evidence supports that it was intended to be taken as a joke and not as a sexual advance.”
